ROPS List – November 16, 2015

Australia QROPS are starting to bounce back with another six Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPS) added to the latest overseas pensions list published by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

The schemes added to the list are:

  • Clarke Family Super Fund
  • J & V Jamieson SMSF Pty Ltd ATF Jamieson Super Fund
  • Military Superannuation and Benefits Scheme
  • Phil & Marion Bryant Superfund
  • Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan
  • Public Sector Superannuation Scheme

The number of QROPS worldwide is up six to 889 across 40 financial centres.

Australia now has 23 QROPS – after being left with just one in July 2015 after more than 1650 were delisted by HMRC for breaking the pension age test. At the time, Australia was by far the financial centre where the most QROPS were based.

The pension age test stops any QROPS from paying benefits to anyone under 55 years old and was introduced in April 2015.

The Isle of Man has 199 pensions to lead the centre with the most QROPS.  Guernsey stays second with 131.

Other movers and losers are:

  • Canada – seven QROPS delisted
  • Austria, France, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Netherlands and South Africa all gain one each

The next Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes (ROPS) List is due from HMRC on December 1, 2015
