If you are looking to improve your influence and profile, London is the place to be, according to a new report.
London is the world’s top city for the sixth year in a row, according to the Institute for Urban Strategies, based in Japan.
The IUS awards points across many categories to cities around the world.
They include GDP growth, economic risk and lifestyle topics such as how many visitors come from overseas, variety of shops and numbers of restaurants.
London scored 1560 points in the latest survey – increasing scores in several categories.
New York came second with 1386 points and Tokyo third with 1354.
“With its unrivalled talent pool, the presence of a huge number of global businesses across all sectors, and access to regulators, business support services and vital European markets, London is the best place in the world to do business,” London mayor Sadiq Khan told the IUS.
Foreign visitors boost standing for London
“What’s more, the capital’s cultural attractions, food scene and sporting calendar are world-leading – just a few of the reasons London is such an attractive place to live and work.”
London’s core strength as the world’s most powerful city comes from the British capital’s huge number of foreign visitors, said the report.
“London continued to maximize its overall strengths by improved ratings in the categories of GDP growth rate and the level of political, economic and business risk.,” said the IUS.
“While there remains some uncertainty surrounding the UK’s exit from the EU, London’s balanced strengths across several categories mean the city has the potential to turn challenges into opportunities, extending its commanding lead and continuing forward as the top-ranked city globally in which to live and work.”
