New York Voted Best City For Business

New York and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates are the world’s top places for business – but not so good as somewhere to live or visit, according to a new study.

The US city that never sleeps, New York, tops the table of 60 global cities in 26 countries as the best city for business in the world.

But Paris wins the vote as a great tourist destination, scoring poorly for business.

Zurich and Sydney were picked as favourite places to live, while London and Tokyo were rated high as all-rounders for business, tourism and cities to call home.

The top 10 was filled out by Rome, Los Angeles and Amsterdam.

Bottom of the league

At the other end of the table, two cities were voted the worst places to live, do business or visit with equally bad scores – Nairobi, Kenya, and Teheran, Iran.

Tying for second bottom place were Bogotá, Columbia; Belgrade, Serbia; Lagos, Nigeria and Karachi, Pakistan.

“The cities in the global top five have unique strengths; New York and Abu Dhabi are unparalleled as centres for business but they score less strongly as a place to live or visit, while Paris tops the global list of tourism destinations but rates comparatively poorly as a business hub, failing to reach the top 10 on this measure,” said the study from market research firm Ipsos MORI.

“London and Tokyo have rounded profiles, scoring more evenly across the three dimensions, while Zurich and Sydney’s strength is derived from their high scores as top cities to live in.”
