Bigger And Better On The Way For Crowdfunding

Britain leads the world in equity crowdfunding and is set to continue to trail blaze with new ways for entrepreneurs and business to source new forms of alternative funding.

The prophecy comes from Darren Westlake, founder of crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.

“Crowdfunding is ready to move on to bigger and better things and has rekindled the public’s interest in investing,” he said.

“More people are ready to put their money into projects and I can see crowdfunding moving in to initial public offerings, private equity and hedge funds in the future.

“With a bigger crowd and more money, crowdfunding is a feasible alternative for bigger businesses and can grow to support them.”

Crowdcube has raised £80 million in funding since opening for business in 2011.

Greek gift

The Greeks may have voted a resounding no to Eurozone bail out terms and the arguments rumble on leaving the country in economic uncertainty.

However, a crowdfunding bid to raise cash to aid the stricken country raised £1.3 million form more than 108,000 sponsors – but fell well short of the £1.6 billion target.

As a result, all money will be refunded to the nation’s well-wishers.

The crowdfunding appeal was hosted on platform Indiegogo.

Now, the appeal organiser has launched a new fund to aid the country and promised all the cash will go directly to the Greek government.

Thom Feeney, the organiser, said: “This is a crisis about people, not just money. It’s time someone did something to help the people struggling to buy food and pay their bills.

“Unemployment is still running at 26% and it’s double that for young people. Hospitals are running out of medicine and garages have no fuel.”

Slash the movie

However unlikely it may sound, Slash the movie starring former Guns’n’Roses guitarist Slash is on the way.

The rock star, born in Stoke-on-Trent, Britain, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise cash for The Hell Within, a horror movie.

The project is on platform FanBacked and is offering movie and music memorabilia to donors.

Anyone handing over $10,000 wins a producer credit on the big screen if the movie goes on release.
